This is a character that is easy to hate. He's spoiled, selfish, and is just an all around brat. However, I've been thinking about a bit. Was he really that way by nature or was he just acting that way because of how he was raised? Harry had been treated badly by his aunt and uncle from the start. Dudley,  being an impressionable youngster, saw this and decided that Harry was bad because of how the two adults he trusted the most acted towards Harry. They showered Dudley with love and gave into his every wish, even when he was throwing a tantrum so he saw them as loving parents. He was a violent bully, because his dad encouraged it either by modeling it with Harry or just using the whole "boys will be boys" argument. When you're spoiled it's probably hard to handle yourself rationally when being told "no," even by peers.

However, throughout the series, Dudley picks on Harry a little bit less. Like, a smidge each book. We don't see too much of him in the sixth book, but then in the last book he surprises everyone by telling Harry he's not a waste of space. Is it possible that as he grew up, he realized that how Harry had been treated was wrong? That maybe Dudley wasn't too bad of a person by nature, and that the only reason he was horrible when he was little was because that's what he was seeing at home?

Just curious as to what your thoughts are. I'm not his biggest fan (or even at all), but it seems he matured.

I think with age, Dudley started to see what his parents are like. After all he was lucky, he had a family, and he had his parents. Growing up, Harry had none of this. It's possible that Dudley really did see the good in Harry and realised the pain he's suffered over the years.

I blame the parents, they're a massive influence in a childs life. And unfortunately Dudley kept up the family traditions...

Yes, they are. Parents have a huge influence on their child.

Yes, It is outrageous how they treated Harry. I still would rather have grown up with his family than mine.

I was feeling upset about something and I just want to say I don't want to trade families lol. I have hard working parents that sometimes get under my skin but I am still very thankful for them!

After my father passed away, my mother was in the hospital (cerebral haemorrhage) and my brother was in and out of the hospital for more than a year, I partly grew up with people like the Dursley's. Only difference was that I had 2 Dudley's.

Growing up, Dudley learned of his parents that Harry was someone to hate. When he got attacked by a dementor, he saw himself as he was: a spoiled brat. I think he learned a lot from that and started to see Harry in a different light. I think he started to realise he had everything he could ever want, and still wasn't satisfied, and realised how Harry didn't have all those things.

I takes a mature person to apologise for what he has done.

Harry Potter author JK Rowling took to her Twitter and shared a Harry Potter fan video showing how Harry Potter would do his laundry.
Recently, JK Rowling shared one such video by her fan on social media. In the video, the fan has shown his take on how Harry Potter would do his laundry.

In the video shared by JK Rowling, two fans are seen playing with a washing machine. The two boys are playing Hedwig’s theme from Harry Potter on the controlling buttons of the washing machine. They have also used the front loading door of the machine to play the tune. In the Harry Potter video, one of the boys is seen wearing glasses and a cape. At the end of the video, the boy wearing cape and glasses is seen getting behind a small cupboard under the stairs as the other one goes upstairs after locking the cupboard’s door.

What are your biggest plot holes and errors in Harry Potter that have always bothered you?

      For example:
Moody puts Harry’s name in the GOF under a fourth school, so he’s the only competitor for that school and has to be chosen. However, the second Dumbledore read the slip of parchment with Harry’s name, he should have seen whatever fake school Harry was entered under.
