Hello Wizarding World,

(I have received permission to post this E-Survey from Dumbledore)

My name is Lauren and I am a third year at the university of Derby, studying International Tourism Management. This research is for my final year research assignment which consists of a 10,000-word dissertation. I have been an avid fan of the Harry Potter series and other instalments for 13 years and it interested me how Platform 93/4 went from an ordinary train platform to an anticipated attraction, where thousands of tourists visit per year and whether tourists know the impacts of popular culture on these attractions.

Title of study:

‘How Popular Culture influences the popularity of locations within destinations: a case study of unintentional attractions?’

What is an unintentional attraction?

An unintentional attraction is an attraction which is essentially tourist destinations which were not intended to become tourist destinations. For example; this could be dark tourist destinations or popular culture tourist destinations such as film, television or music set locations.

Time to complete the E-Survey:

10 to 15 minutes (It ultimately depends on how long you spend on the E-Survey)

Where will your data be kept and who will see your data?

The information will be stored securely on a password protected university cloud system and only the researcher will have access to it.  Results of the study will be disseminated through production of a research project which will not be given to any third party outside of the University of Derby. All information will be anonymised and so you / your organisation / site will not be identifiable from the subsequent data analysis.

What happens if I change my mind about taking part?

The study is in itself a voluntary process so even though your input is important to the completion of the research, if you no longer wish to take part in the process you can withdraw from the study. This will not affect your right to make contact with the researcher should you wish to discuss any aspect of the research in the future or ask for more information about the study.

What happens if I decide not to take part?

There will be no consequences if you decide to not take part in the research as it is an entirely voluntary process.

! Taking part in this study is entirely voluntary!

The link below provides information regarding the research itself and the procedures and logistics involved. By participating in the study, you are agreeing for your responses to be used as part of this undergraduate dissertation.
