Has Ralph Fiennes really been cast as Voldemort? There’s a Harry Potter rumour doing the rounds…

[Dumbledore]

There’s a Harry Potter casting rumour going around that has a lot of fans talking. Apparently, Ralph Fiennes is set to return as Lord Voldemort in HBO’s new Harry Potter series.

It sounds believable at first, especially because Fiennes played Voldemort throughout the original film series and is still so closely associated with the character. But there’s a problem… it doesn’t actually appear to be true.

The rumour seems to have come from a viral post claiming that Fiennes had officially been cast for the fourth season, which would cover Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. The post even claimed the news came from Variety. However, that report has not been confirmed, and there is no official announcement from HBO or Warner Bros. confirming Fiennes’ return.

Interestingly, Fiennes has actually spoken about the possibility of returning. Earlier this year, he said he had previously been asked about reprising Voldemort and that he would have been happy to do it. But according to Fiennes, “the ship has sailed” and nothing has happened with the idea.

He also had an interesting suggestion for who could play Voldemort instead… Tilda Swinton. Fiennes said he thought she would be “amazing” in the role, which has definitely given fans something to think about.

So, for now, Ralph Fiennes has not been officially announced as the new Voldemort. The casting remains a mystery.

That said, I have to admit… seeing Fiennes return would be pretty fascinating. He already knows exactly how to play Voldemort, but a completely new actor could also give the character a very different feel, especially with the series having much more time to explore Voldemort and his history.

And Tilda Swinton as Voldemort? I honestly wasn't expecting that suggestion.

Would you rather see Ralph Fiennes return as Voldemort, or should HBO give someone completely new a chance? And what do you think about Tilda Swinton as a possible choice?
