Now and then you stumble across an actor and think… wow, they would have been a perfect fit for the wizarding world. I’ve been mulling this over and a couple of names immediately came to mind.

 

First up… Mark Addy.

You’ll know him as King Robert Baratheon from Game of Thrones. He has that larger than life presence, the booming laugh, the warmth and stubborn streak that would have made him an amazing Hagrid. He feels like someone who could have pulled off both the comic timing and the deep loyalty that defines the gentle giant.

 

Mark Addy is currently voicing Hagrid in the Audible Full Cast Editions.

 

Second… Hugh Grant.

The smooth charm he brought to roles like William Thacker in Notting Hill would have been spot on for Gilderoy Lockhart. Perfectly vain, perfectly charming, and just the right amount of ridiculous. He could have stolen every scene without even trying.
