Universal Orlando’s highly anticipated attraction, Harry Potter and the Battle at the Ministry, has reopened a day earlier than scheduled at the upcoming Epic Universe theme park. As of this morning, May 16, 2025, guests can experience the ride using a traditional standby queue, marking a significant shift from the previously implemented virtual line system.

What’s New:
The ride, set within the British Ministry of Magic, immerses guests in a thrilling adventure alongside Harry, Ron, and Hermione as they confront dark forces and witness Dolores Umbridge’s trial. Previously, access was limited to a virtual queue system, which faced criticism for its unpredictability and technical glitches.

Now, with the introduction of the standby queue, guests can line up traditionally. Current wait times are reported at approximately 120 minutes. The ride also offers a single rider line and child swap options.

Technical Rehearsals and Grand Opening:
Epic Universe is currently in its technical rehearsal phase, with the final previews concluding on May 19. The official grand opening is slated for May 22, 2025. Universal plans to livestream the Grand Opening Celebration on the evening of May 21, followed by a celebratory moment for guests on opening day.

What to Expect:

This groundbreaking new attraction is located in the Wizarding World of Harry Potter – Ministry of Magic section of the park and promises to be one of the most immersive and technologically advanced experiences Universal has ever offered.

 

The ride transports guests into the heart of the British Ministry of Magic, where the infamous Dolores Umbridge is about to face trial. The adventure begins the moment you step into the queue. Guests wind their way through a highly detailed recreation of the Ministry, passing through iconic locations such as the Ministry’s grand atrium and the pink, cat-adorned interior of Umbridge’s office. Along the way, you’ll find magical newspapers, flickering fireplaces, animated portraits, and authentic props that help build anticipation before the ride even begins.

Once you board the ride, you’re swept into a dynamic storyline where you join Harry, Ron, Hermione, and an endearing new house-elf character named Higgledy. Together, you’ll traverse various departments within the Ministry, including the Time Room, the Department of Magical Creatures, and the Magical Archives. The ride combines physical sets, intricate animatronics, and cutting-edge screen-based scenes, creating a seamless, fast-paced journey through magical chaos. Expect narrow escapes, spell duels with Death Eaters, and a dramatic appearance by magical creatures — all culminating in a high-stakes chase to stop Umbridge’s escape.

 

The attraction runs for just over four minutes and has a minimum height requirement of 40 inches, with children under 48 inches needing supervision. Guests must transfer to the ride vehicle, and assistive listening and captioning devices are available. Interestingly, no lockers are required for this ride, and it also offers a single rider line and child swap room for families.

 

What’s also worth noting is that Harry Potter and the Battle at the Ministry was previously operating under a virtual queue system, which has now been replaced with a traditional standby line. This change means you can simply line up at the attraction without having to worry about snagging a virtual spot in advance — though during peak times, the wait may exceed two hours. Technical rehearsals for the ride continue until May 19, with the official grand opening of the entire park scheduled for May 22. Universal has announced that a livestream of the grand opening ceremony will be broadcast on the evening of May 21, giving fans everywhere a chance to be part of the magic.

 

Beyond the ride itself, the Ministry of Magic area offers an array of themed experiences. Guests can explore magical shops and dining locations or catch the live show Le Cirque Arcanus, inspired by the Fantastic Beasts films.
