Rupert Grint is returning as Ron Weasley!

Not for the new TV series. Not for another film. He's heading back to the Wizarding World for a 17 week run of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child on Broadway.

Performances begin on 2 February 2027, and yes… that means we're going to see Rupert Grint playing Ron Weasley again.

Just let that sink in for a second. It's been years since we saw him as Ron on screen, and now he's stepping back into the character as an adult. And actually, Cursed Child is the perfect place for him to return. The story is set 19 years after the events of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, so Ron is no longer the awkward teenager we remember from Hogwarts.

He's grown up. He's married Hermione. They have a daughter, Rose. And he's part of the next generation of the wizarding world, alongside Harry, Ginny and their children. There's something quite nice about having the original actor return to the character rather than simply recasting an adult Ron. We've spent years imagining what happened to Harry, Ron and Hermione after Hogwarts. Now we're getting to see at least one of the original trio actually step back into that world.

The Broadway run will be limited to 17 weeks, with performances beginning on 2 February 2027, so this isn't an open ended return. And if you're thinking about going, there's already a way to get ahead of the rush. Fans can sign up for first access to tickets through Harry Potter Broadway.

I suspect tickets are going to be rather popular. Because let's be honest… there are going to be plenty of people who grew up watching Rupert Grint as Ron who suddenly realise they have the opportunity to see him play the character again, live on stage.

That's a pretty tempting bit of Potter nostalgia. And I'm particularly curious about one thing. What will adult Ron actually be like? We've seen plenty of teenage Ron, but seeing Rupert return to the character after all these years could give us a completely different version of him.

So…

Would you travel to New York to see Rupert Grint return as Ron Weasley?

Seventeen weeks isn't very long. And somehow I suspect those tickets aren't going to hang around.
