Different favourites in books and movies?

Dear fellow Gryffindors, Ravenclaws, Hufflepuffs and Slytherins

 

When it gets dark outside earlier and the temperature drops I tend to curl up on the sofa with a book and a nice cup of tea. Currently I am re-reading “The Order of the Phoenix”. Turns out, my best friend is watching the corresponding film today while putting up the Christmas decorations.

we chatted a bit about the story on the phone and afterwards I found myself thinking: ”Are there characters that I like better in the books and some that I like better in the movies?”

 

Turns out, for me the answer is yes, well, sort of.

I really like Nearly Headless Nick in the books, but even though I am a huge John Cleese fan, I find the character much too pale in the movies. Admittedly he doesn’t get much screen time.

 

I have the same problem with Kingsley Shacklebolt.

 

Then there is Molly Weasley. The picture I have of her in my head has always been completely different from her portrayal in the movies. Julie Walters is an amazing actress who plays the mother of 7 kids navigating the dangers of the Wizarding World like no other. The Molly in my head has always been younger, though. She is less exhausted, less stressed, still has some girlish qualities. The girl that Arthur fell in love with still shines through the years of motherhood.

 

With Draco Malfoy it’s the other way around. I am much more fond of movie-Draco, even though I suspect that has a lot to do with the fact that Tom Felton is such a loveable person and it is hard to see Draco without seeing Tom, at least for me.

 

Do you have that with any characters? Do you view anyone differently, depending on if you watch them or read them?
