The Founders of Hogwarts are Medieval Highranked Wizards, the best of their ages. They were friends, before the tear with Slytherin. It appears to me that Founders inspiration comes from Narnia Chronicles. My link is the following: Peter Pevensie - Godric Gryffindor; Susan Pevensie - Rowena Ravenclaw; Edmund Pevensie - Salazar Slytherin; Lucy Pevensie - Helga Hufflepuff. Their mindset are the same, they have the same quality of each Houses. Peter is the Bravery, the Wisdom and the Leader. Susan is a Cold-Blood Intelligence, Logical and Sceptism and always with Doubts. Edmund is the only of the four that got trapped in the Opposite side, the Ambitious one, he seeks power and he is also the Best dualist of the 4, sometimes cruel. Lucy is the kindness, the curiosity, the fidelity and the Family bonds that keep the four together. So, to me it's clear that the Pevensie siblings ARE the 4 Founders in Narnia Chronicles and this Family is the lead to this House system.
