Do you like Lily Evans?

As a mother, I can only admire what Lily did for Harry. She protected him with her love in a way that she probably never dreamed of. That Lily, Lily Potter, I like, even though we don't get to know much about her.

 

I am torn, however, as far as Lily Evans is concerned. There are just some things in the books that rub me the wrong way. I still have no clear grasp of the Evans-family-dynamics. Was Lily the beloved special child and Petunia the nosy older sister with a chip on her shoulder? Or was Lily the pretty younger one with the natural charm that made life easier for her than for her bony, less charming older sister?

Was she a particularly good friend to Severus? She must have noticed something about his home situation, but did she ever actively try to help?

And what about the way she talked to the Marauders, before she became James' girlfriend and part of the group? Was that a lion's courage or just a sharp tongue?
