I was wondering - if you are a writer, be it fan fiction or anything else (maybe @Lily1979 or @Beeha or @John Stefan) - do you use music as focus or inspiration?

Personally I create playlists to set the mood, if I have already decided what to write. So, darker topics require more intense music while fluff needs some feel-good-pop.

Other times I hear a tune and it inspires a story. Then I just have to start writing on anything that is available - notebooks are nice, but napkins, the tablecloth, a shopping receipt, even the back of my hand are fair game as well. And I just HAVE to find the tune/song/melody again, which is the only reason why I have Shazam on my phone.

 

Friends of mine who write told me they need absolute silence or at the most the sounds of nature to be able to focus. 

 

Now I am curious: are there any other playlist curators out there?

 

 

To give you an example, this is the playlist I used for a chapter of a Snape-centric fan fiction that involved a trip into Muggle-London with Lucius, Narcissa and Co.
