Harry Potter: Wizards of Baking Is Returning for Season 3… and This Time the Hogwarts Houses Are Going Head to Head

There’s some lovely new Harry Potter news for anyone who enjoys a bit of magical chaos in the kitchen.

 

 

Harry Potter: Wizards of Baking has officially been renewed for a third season, and this time the show is changing things up quite a bit. Food Network announced the news on September 1, with the new season planned for its fourth quarter holiday programming lineup later this year. There isn’t an exact premiere date yet, but the return is particularly fitting because 2026 marks 25 years since Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone first arrived in cinemas.

 

 

The biggest change is the competition format. Instead of simply watching pairs of bakers battle it out challenge by challenge, Season 3 will use a tournament style team format based around the four Hogwarts houses. Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw and Slytherin will each have their own team, which honestly sounds like exactly the sort of thing Harry Potter fans are going to get ridiculously competitive about. I can already imagine people arguing that Hufflepuff has been robbed before the first cake has even gone into the oven.

 

Each episode will also pay tribute to one of the eight Harry Potter films, tying the baking challenges into 25 years of movie history. Food Network says the new season will feature cakes on an even bigger scale, along with creations presented in more famous Harry Potter locations. So rather than simply making something that looks vaguely magical, the bakers will have the whole Wizarding World to draw inspiration from.

James and Oliver Phelps are also coming back to host. Of course, fans know them as Fred and George Weasley from the original films, and their involvement has become a big part of the show's charm. They bring that slightly mischievous Weasley energy to the competition, which feels particularly appropriate when you consider that the bakers are sometimes creating enormous cakes that look like Hogwarts props, magical creatures or scenes from the films.

 

 

The first two seasons were built around professional pastry chefs and cake artists creating huge edible displays inspired by Harry Potter. The competition has also featured familiar faces from the films as guest judges, while the challenges have used locations connected with the original movies. Season 3 looks set to push that idea further, with Food Network promising ambitious creations, iconic locations and plenty of surprises.

What I find most interesting about the new format is the house rivalry. Harry Potter has always had the four houses sitting in the background of the story, but putting them directly against one another in a baking tournament gives the show a completely different feel. Imagine a Slytherin team producing something ridiculously elaborate while Gryffindor decides subtlety is apparently illegal. Meanwhile, Ravenclaw will probably turn up with a cake that requires a twelve minute explanation before anyone is allowed to eat it.

 

There are still quite a few things we don't know. Food Network hasn't announced the Season 3 bakers yet, and there is no confirmed episode count or premiere date. It also hasn't been confirmed which Harry Potter film actors might return as guest judges this time around. Previous seasons have featured stars including Warwick Davis, Evanna Lynch, Bonnie Wright, Afshan Azad and Devon Murray, so there is plenty of room for some familiar faces to appear again.

 

 

What we do know is that the timing makes a lot of sense. With the original films celebrating 25 years, the new HBO series arriving at Christmas and Harry Potter appearing everywhere again, Wizards of Baking is getting another chance to join the celebration. And honestly, I don't think anyone is going to complain about seeing enormous Hogwarts cakes while waiting for the new series.

 

Now I want to know which house you'd support if you were actually competing.
