Albus-Tom, a trust-distrust relationship ?

"This is what Dumbledore sends his defender ! A songbird and an old hat! Do you feel brave, Harry Potter ? Do you feel safe now ?"

 

These are the words of Tom Riddle, said to Harry at the Chamber of Secrets. It doesn't make sense to say that he was manipulating Harry and pushing him against Dumbledore, because Tom was going to kill Harry that day.

 

I don't think Tom neglected anything too, because he knew really well what the songbird and old hat were capable of. And he knew really well the power of Dumbledore.

 

So, I'm doubting something here : was Tom somehow affectively disappointed from Albus Dumbledore, during his years at Hogwarts ? Did he expect more warmth, presence and support from the Headmaster, not only his controlling behaviour ?
