House Prefect - Forum Moderator

Well, here is a small guide to help some of you who are not familiar with the role. Remember you are the back bone of the forums and help keep things running smoothly.

What is a forum moderator?

A forum moderator oversees the communication activity of an Internet forum. He/She monitors the contributors (members) and makes decisions regarding content and the direction of threads. Moving discussions from one section to another to keep topics organized is also a common job for a forum moderator. If the forum becomes hostile or starts to move in the direction of personal attacks, the forum moderator usually has the discretion to lock the discussion to prevent heated, interchanges. He may also be able to hide discussions he deems unworthy of further discussion.

Duties of a forum moderator may include moving discussions (threads/posts) to more appropriate sections, closing or locking threads based on dwindling interest or lack of recent activity of merely going off-topic, editing posts for clarity or content, and deleting threads. Thread deletion can either be temporary or permanent, depending on the wishes of the forum moderator, although you'll also have the power to hide posts/threads. If an abusive contributor refuses to cease unacceptable behavior, the forum moderator will the discretion to ban the user, but this is used as a last resort.

Harry Potter star Tom Felton has revealed he doesn't think the cast will ever reunite for any more instalments of the franchise. Tom has expressed along with  fans who don’t see the need to update the original franchise.

Speaking to various sources, Felton was asked if he thought the cast would do another movie.

"How much you offering?" he answered.
"I'm joking. I don't think it will be reprised, to be honest with you.
"I think it was a wonderful eight chapters, and everything that needed to be done was done. I think they'll take it further on in their own direction, but we're all still immensely proud to be part of it."

The actor, who played Draco Malfoy, also added that he was happy to see how the Potter fandom is still growing.

"It's great to see it's been past down from generation to generation," Tom said. "But I can speak for the cast when I say we're very grateful for all of the support that's come our way over the last decade."

Tom shared a photo of himself standing beside a pic of Draco Malfoy from the first Harry Potter movie, The Philosopher's Stone, and poked fun at how much he's changed over the years.
Pointing at the poster of young Draco while also wearing a Slytherin cape, Tom wrote: "Agings a bitch".

A wizard school is opening in Gloucestershire this Halloween and it will teach aspiring witches and wizards all they need to know. The four-day course starts on Monday, October 28 and runs until Thursday, October 31 where you will spend four magical days immersed in the World of Wizardry.

The cost for the programme is £180 and runs from 10am - 4.30pm Monday through to Thursday at St Andrews Church in Cheltenham .

This is the first time the Harry Potter-themed school has been launched at Halloween having previously run The School of Wizardry during the summer.

The spellbinding course is run by Cheltenham Academy of Music and Dramatic Art and their Principal Nicola Carter, also known as dotty Professor Magnolia McGonagal.
During the school, the magical professors will be dressed in cloaks and wizards aged six and above will have the chance to learn about all things magic - this includes magnificent music, drama and magic masterclasses with professional magicians from The Magic Circle.
During the four-day course, aspiring witches and wizards will be taught all the core classes including acting magic, live owls, hubble bubble choir, conjuring, transfiguration make up, wand stage combat and the care of magical creatures.

What's more, they will even have the chance to see real live owls courtesy of Walks with Hawks. And if that wasn't enough, next summer the Harry Potter-themed event will be back along with a pirate theme which will feature exotic animals such as snakes, spiders and parrots. The School of Wizardry has proved popular and over the last three years, the school has given out around 70 scholarships as Nicola explains: "Sometimes the money can be a bit out of people's wizardry pockets."

For more information  or to apply you can email the magic team on info@camda.org or call 07545345655.

I was Tweeted at today and asked; ' who are Hogwarts’ English and maths teachers? As far as I can tell, they never get taught the basics, so where do they learn them?'
This made me wonder if children who attend or graduate from Hogwarts have an education that can be used in the Muggle world? Do students learn English and Maths?

      As Tweeted here:
With some research we can see that Arithmancy is taught but that's the study of the magical properties of numbers, not maths.

How do younger wizards and witches get educated in basic skills like reading and writing?
We see very little of this in the books, although obviously the kids entering Hogwarts have been trained in some of these basic skills or they wouldn’t be able to handle the classes the face at Hogwarts. Given the very medieval nature of the wizarding world, I suggest that most kids are trained either by their parents in basic reading, writing, and math, or are trained in small one-room schools with a relatively few children and one teacher. This training would cover the basics and enough pre-magic theory to produce kids who can function in wizarding society.
      Currently taught at Hogwarts
      Herbology = Botany/Gardening Care of Magical Creatures = Zoology/Veterinary Science Arithmancy = Arithmetic/Mathematics Potions = Chemistry/Cookery/Pharmacology Astronomy = (Astro)physics/Mathematics/Geography (of the Heavens) Charms = Latin/Drama/Kinetics DADA = Physical Education/Chemistry/Physics Divination = Mathematics/Psychology/Philosophy/Lunacy Ancient Runes = History/Logic/Mathematics/Linguistics Transfiguration = Physics/Biology (bioenergetics)/Physical Education History of Magic = History/Tolerance (of boredom) Flying = Physical Education/Driving Lessons Muggle Studies = History/Sociology/Technology etc.
I'm very interested if anyone does know or has their own ideas on the matter. We'd love to hear your comments.
