More magic awaits… We’re thrilled to announce that Wizarding World Gold, our spellbinding new 12-month subscription, is available to pre-order from today.
From eBooks to exclusive series, priority ticketing to collectible pins – here’s a guide to the glittering goodies that come with your subscription.

Are there any Nifflers around? Keep your eyes peeled for them, because we’re about to talk about Gold. Launching this autumn, Wizarding World Gold is an annual paid subscription that promises to serve up all manner of Wizarding World treats. Currently on offer to UK and US-based fans (with more countries to follow in the coming months), it’s available to pre-order now and will enhance your free membership of the Official Harry Potter Fan Club.
Here are just some of the things on offer…
      A magical welcome gift
Subscribers will receive a magical welcome gift, including a postcard-sized print of J.K. Rowling’s sketch of Hogwarts, an exclusive collectible pin and a personalised, interactive journal we’re calling Keys and Curios.

Curious about Keys and Curios? Read on…
This beautiful journal will arrive personalised with your name, Hogwarts house and more. And Keys and Curios knows more about you than just your house – flip through its pages to find personalised surprises and, as the title may suggest, discover Enchanted Keys that you can scan with your Wizarding World app to unlock hidden secrets. Each month will offer up something new, display gorgeous themed artwork from across the Wizarding World and propose regular activities for you to scribble in.
(And it absolutely won’t be mistaken for Tom Riddle’s diary!)
Did we mention? The Keys and Curios cover is specially designed by the graphic design team behind the Harry Potter and Fantastic Beastsfilms, MinaLima.
Those that take advantage of the pre-order window can be among the first to receive this amazing journal. We really hope you like it.

      And even more magic
As well as your welcome gift, a 12-month Wizarding World Gold subscription will also give you*:

I was Tweeted at today and asked; ' who are Hogwarts’ English and maths teachers? As far as I can tell, they never get taught the basics, so where do they learn them?'
This made me wonder if children who attend or graduate from Hogwarts have an education that can be used in the Muggle world? Do students learn English and Maths?

      As Tweeted here:
With some research we can see that Arithmancy is taught but that's the study of the magical properties of numbers, not maths.

How do younger wizards and witches get educated in basic skills like reading and writing?
We see very little of this in the books, although obviously the kids entering Hogwarts have been trained in some of these basic skills or they wouldn’t be able to handle the classes the face at Hogwarts. Given the very medieval nature of the wizarding world, I suggest that most kids are trained either by their parents in basic reading, writing, and math, or are trained in small one-room schools with a relatively few children and one teacher. This training would cover the basics and enough pre-magic theory to produce kids who can function in wizarding society.
      Currently taught at Hogwarts
      Herbology = Botany/Gardening Care of Magical Creatures = Zoology/Veterinary Science Arithmancy = Arithmetic/Mathematics Potions = Chemistry/Cookery/Pharmacology Astronomy = (Astro)physics/Mathematics/Geography (of the Heavens) Charms = Latin/Drama/Kinetics DADA = Physical Education/Chemistry/Physics Divination = Mathematics/Psychology/Philosophy/Lunacy Ancient Runes = History/Logic/Mathematics/Linguistics Transfiguration = Physics/Biology (bioenergetics)/Physical Education History of Magic = History/Tolerance (of boredom) Flying = Physical Education/Driving Lessons Muggle Studies = History/Sociology/Technology etc.
I'm very interested if anyone does know or has their own ideas on the matter. We'd love to hear your comments.
