A Talk About Ginny Weasley

Recommended Posts

So, I'm probably gonna get some hate for this but I just cannot stand Ginny Weasley. Now, Yes, I have read the books and she is wayy better in the books. But even then, I just still don't get the hype about her character. I don't hate her but I don't get the whole "Ginny is so cool" thing. To me, the only ark she really had was she was the only daughter in the Weasley family and she was really good at quidditch, but for me I felt she was really boring. Plus, I can't tell you how much I dislike "Hinny". Harry and Ginny just make no sense whatsoever. Like one day Harry just knew Ginny as Ron's little sister and the next day his was talking about how nice her skin is and that he's falling in love? Sounds like a love potion to me... And sure in the books there was way more development and it DID make more sense, but it still was kinda odd. I also felt like she was funny and more bad girl type in the books but I still can't find a way to like her. I felt like she was a pretty forced character and she was made important at the very end. And I mean come on, I love J.K but Ginny actually getting with Harry is, first off boring-ly convenient, like of course Harry just magically realizes that he's been in love with his best friends little sister all this time and Ginny has this huge school girl crush on "The Harry Potter" for most of her Hogwarts years and Harry is her older brothers best friend, and then he just starts loving her. I mean cmon, that is so forced and honestly kinda boring. Is this just me? What are your thoughts?

I love Ginny. The movies aren't canon and don't matter, but in the books she's a wonderful character: funny, strong, warm.

Someone else was moving not far away, stooping over another prone figure on the ground.
He was feet away from her when he realized it was Ginny. He stopped in his tracks.
She was crouching over a girl who was whispering for her mother.

“It’s all right,” Ginny was saying. “It’s okay. We’re going to get you inside.”

“But I want to go home,” whispered the girl. “I don’t want to fight anymore!”

“I know,” said Ginny, and her voice broke. “It’s going to be all right.” – DH

A bit snarky and mischievous.

“They could hear people complaining; one surly voice said, “I can’t see no gas…”
“That’s because it’s colorless,” said Ginny in a convincingly exasperated voice,
“but if you want to walk through it, carry on, then we’ll have your body as proof for the next idiot who didn’t believe us…”  – OotP

Harry: “And Ginny, don’t call Ron a prat, you’re not the Captain of this team —"Ginny:
"Well, you seemed too busy to call him a prat and I thought someone should —” – HBP

Ginny: “You’d think people had better things to gossip about. Three dementor attacks in a week, and all Romilda Vane does is ask me if it’s true you’ve got a hippogriff tattooed across your chest.
"Harry: "What did you tell her?"Ginny: "I told her it’s a Hungarian Horntail. Much more macho.
"Harry: "Thanks. And what did you tell her Ron’s got?"Ginny: "A Pygmy Puff, but I didn’t say where.” – HBP

And she gets Harry like no other character, except maybe Ron. Where Hermione will nag and guilt trip Harry when she's worried about him, Ginny gets right to root of the problem and gives him support and/or a sharp wake up call.

Harry to Ginny: “I didn’t want anyone to talk to me,” said Harry, who was feeling more and more nettled.
“Well, that was a bit stupid of you,” said Ginny angrily, “seeing as you don’t know anyone but me who’s been possessed by You-Know-Who, and I can tell you how it feels.”
Harry remained quite still as the impact of these words hit him. Then he wheeled around.
“I forgot,” he said.
“Lucky you,” said Ginny coolly. – OotP

She's a survivor. She went through an incredibly traumatic experience in her first year at Hogwarts and came out stronger.

Harry respects her. He laughs at her jokes. He enjoys her company. They share interets. Harry knows that she's strong enough to be with someone like him. Anyone could fall in love with Ginny, because she's wonderful. It takes Harry a few years because he's preoccupied with another girl and with all the chaos in his life, but once Ginny is no longer a child he sees her for who she really is. There's zero reason why she's need a love potion. Harry is lucky to have her and they're perfect for each other.

She is certainly different in the books, I mean they miss out so much in the films. What about when they're dating and rumours going around about Harry having a tattoo haha!

"And all Romilda Vane does is ask me if it’s true you’ve got a Hippogriff tattooed across your chest."
Ron and Hermione both roared with laughter. Harry ignored them.
What did you tell her?"
I told her it's a Hungarian Horntail," said Ginny, turning a page of the newspaper idly. "Much more macho."
Thanks," said Harry, grinning. "And what did you tell her Ron’s got?"
A Pygmy Puff, but I didn’t say where.”

The books bring Ginny more to life as she's much more involved!

I think I do agree with the one who started the topic, but at the same time, I haven't read the books in a while. I just have the movies to go by. In the movies, it does seem a little out of the blue that suddenly they are in love. It seemed to me that they don't quite know each other all that much. Not like the way Hermione knows him, for example, or Luna even. I love Hermione with Ron, but if ever it hadn't worked out between those two, I would have liked Harry to have been with her! My most favorite pairing would have been Luna with Harry...although Luna with Neville was adorable!! Why on earth didn't they stay together??  :default_sorry:

Within the books it sort of starts at the end of the Order of the Pheonix when he starts to notice her and gets jealous of her dating, and then really takes off in the Half Blood Prince.

Well, what I find cutest is remembering how much of a crush Ginny had on Harry right from the beginning of book 2. It was so sweet, her reaction when Harry first arrived at the Weasley house and how surprised and shy she got!
