  4. Harry Potter has had a huge impact on today’s generation for those who’ve grown up reading and watching these books and films. Which movies or books have made a biggest impact on you? We'd love to hear your experiences! Have the books/movies helped you through a bad time, maybe they just bring you joy?
  5. Harry Potter has since became such an a global phenomenon that it’s hard to see the full scope what it accomplished over the years. J.K. Rowling was an unknown single mom when she first got the idea for her story while stuck on a train; the small UK children’s press that ultimately took a chance on it undoubtedly couldn’t have predicted that it would have a measurable effect on everything it touched. Now one of the biggest forces in pop culture, it changed the way that businesses published books for kids. It’s remarkable that Harry Potter was rejected from no less than nine different publishers in the UK (all of whom rue the day, to be sure). Little finally got the manuscript into the hands of an agent at Bloomsbury, and they bought the rights for something like 2,000 pounds. Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone was released in the UK on June 30, 1997. The books were around for a long time before Harry Potter. But JK Rowling turned book consumption, especially for children, into something close to addiction. You want proof? The UK release of Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban in 1999 was timed at 3.45pm to prevent children in England and Wales from skipping school to get their copy. The later books got HUGE but it didn't stop kids devouring them. Grown-ups got hooked too, with the books being released in adult-friendly covers. The book releases themselves became headline news: when the fourth book Goblet of Fire came out in 2000, booksellers around the world got together to coordinate the first ever global midnight launch. I'll admit, I was a later comer to the Harry Potter series. Believe it or not, it wasn't till I saw promo advertising for Harry Potter and The Prisoner Of Azkaban at my first job. Now, don't get me wrong I had seen Harry Potter and The Philosophers Stone Harry Potter and The Chamber of Secrets when they came out on DVD! (Not Bluray). But I didn't like the movies, I didn't 'get it'. So after looking through the promo advertising it looked far more interesting, plus the fact that Hermione (Emma Watson) was my age, she looked pretty. I bought the DVD, took it home that evening, setup the DVD and TV, sat down and watched it.... I LOVED IT! From that day forth I've been hooked. Despite your own preferences, is widely known as the best film in the series. (Just saying) I was a part of the generation that truly grew up with harry potter... The characters were around my age and I just loved the magical world, I was hooked! I remember making friends over the years and sharing stories, theories and bickered countless hours over how the screenwriters left out seemingly crucial scenes from the books, or how the actors playing the three leads just weren’t cutting it, or how impossible it is to ever recreate on the screen the universe that we’ve designed in our heads over all the years of reading the series. In the early 2000's Harry Potter was alive and breeding on the Internet, thanks to fan sites such as ' the-leaky-cauldron ', ' mugglenet ' & of course the famous veritaserum.com - forums. Potter Web masters Emerson Spartz of Leaky Cauldron and Melissa Anelli of Mugglenet agree that between 2000 and 2003 the Potter galaxy exploded again, from publishing phenomenon to cultural phenomenon. So when someone says that Harry Potter changed the world, it’s not exactly an exaggeration. I'm sure I speak for many who believe that Harry Potter is simply a part of their lives. Thoughts? Do you think this sort of phenomenon will ever happen again in our lifetimes?
  6. If you were at Hogwarts during the time Dumbledore's army is organised, would you have joined?
  7. It's been 9 years since the series ended and The Deathly Hallow Part 2 was release, However, over the years there have been many opinions and a fair few topics in Harry Potter universe that very controversial. Below we've compiled some of the best, and we'd love to hear your comments, or even your own controversial opinions. Here are our top 10 controversial opinions: Hermione was abusive and manipulative? Severus Snape was a horrible person who did not achieve redemption? Neville should have been the chosen one? Fred and George are overrated? Hagrid was a terrible adult figure and influence in the trio’s lives? Hermione should have ended up with Malfoy? Draco Malfoy deserved better? Albus Dumbledore was a bad headmaster that endangered students and played favourites? Remus Lupin would have been a better godfather to Harry than Sirius Black? Hermione would have been much better off in Ravenclaw? Do you agree with any of them? What are your though? Quote the numbered opinion with your reply underneath. Example: Of course, they're overrated! They're the Weasley Twins after all, and it brings a little humour to the series!
  8. Harry Potter look at this very realistic digital painting of a black Hermione in her school uniform and a S.P.E.W badge Sophia Canning, a recent RISD graduate, took to Twitter on August 12 to show off her Hermione artwork. Painted in Photoshop, the image could easily be mistaken for a photograph. It features Hermione with dark skin and big, curly black hair, dressed in a Gryffindor tie with a SPEW button on her shirt — and, naturally, a huge pile of books in her arms. Peeves the magic Tulpa?

I am not a ghost specialist!! Peeves has a physical form that is unusual for a poltergeist! Is this because we are told he is? Like tomatos being veg (when its a fruit?) I think he fits better as a Tulpa (or a manifestation) Peeves was present for the first head master! Hogwarts must have attracted its ghosts over time!? (We know that moaning mertol is newer than most others, being a former student killed on site) My theory is that the misschef of students (maybe as a by product of protection and containment charms cast on the school, eg. a ghost in the programing like computers) manifested itself as peeves, then year after year students experiance him, feeding the belief in him, and the miss behaving nature feeding his too! After all students dont, cause as much trouble as they could? Or at least it doesnt make it to the books. Usualy it results of arguments or rivalries (slyth vs grif) no ice on the floors, magic kick me signs, hands in worm water, freezing underwear, basicly hexing or pranking eachother! Even the muggle borns who might be more familior with this type of foolary! I know you may be screaming fred and gorge by now! Yes the twins are icons for this but they are the only ones and basicly encouraged the other students with the things they made! The twins are the only exception maybe because they are twins? Some how confuses the magic too? Un able to be subdued by peeves pesance but the oposite!!! After all these boys just invented all these weezis? Wiches and wizards have died messing with spells and potions (lunas mom) so how did they do it! My belief is that much research had been done on this topic or topics before and the boys pulled it together! Maybe "non lethal effects of magical herbs" then mix them together in sweets etc. Rant paused!
  11. I was Tweeted at today and asked; ' who are Hogwarts’ English and maths teachers? As far as I can tell, they never get taught the basics, so where do they learn them?' This made me wonder if children who attend or graduate from Hogwarts have an education that can be used in the Muggle world? Do students learn English and Maths? As Tweeted here: With some research we can see that Arithmancy is taught but that's the study of the magical properties of numbers, not maths. How do younger wizards and witches get educated in basic skills like reading and writing? We see very little of this in the books, although obviously the kids entering Hogwarts have been trained in some of these basic skills or they wouldn’t be able to handle the classes the face at Hogwarts. Given the very medieval nature of the wizarding world, I suggest that most kids are trained either by their parents in basic reading, writing, and math, or are trained in small one-room schools with a relatively few children and one teacher. This training would cover the basics and enough pre-magic theory to produce kids who can function in wizarding society. Currently taught at Hogwarts Herbology = Botany/Gardening Care of Magical Creatures = Zoology/Veterinary Science Arithmancy = Arithmetic/Mathematics Potions = Chemistry/Cookery/Pharmacology Astronomy = (Astro)physics/Mathematics/Geography (of the Heavens) Charms = Latin/Drama/Kinetics DADA = Physical Education/Chemistry/Physics Divination = Mathematics/Psychology/Philosophy/Lunacy Ancient Runes = History/Logic/Mathematics/Linguistics Transfiguration = Physics/Biology (bioenergetics)/Physical Education History of Magic = History/Tolerance (of boredom) Flying = Physical Education/Driving Lessons Muggle Studies = History/Sociology/Technology etc. I'm very interested if anyone does know or has their own ideas on the matter. We'd love to hear your comments.

  13. Welcome back to the ASTROLOGY world with Haeju! credit to owner Check the first part here. We're gonna continue to sort the astrology signs a.k.a. zodiacs into Hogwarts houses. I'll make it simpler tho. Anyway, let's go! HUFFLEPUFF: Taurus, Virgo, Libra 7. Taurus The fancy sign! Taurus is known for being chill, easy-going, simple, patient, and rich. Taurus likes to have many friends, many foods, and many spare time. Taurus can be annoying when they appear as lazy and stubborn, but they're quite loyal too. Taurus is the sign of comfort. Oh, they also love anything beautiful! 8. Virgo Virgo is perfectionist and hard-working. As the typical Hufflepuff, they're not afraid of toil. Some Virgo even hates to have nothing to do. They're obsessed to work as and they want their work finished in the best way possible. This can make Virgo smarter than some Ravenclaw or more ambitious than Slytherine. But outside of that, Virgo is really easy-going and not judging. They can be so fun and cheerful as a friend. 9. Libra Balance isn't just what Libra is known for. They're known to be people-oriented and loyal. Libra loves to have discussion as much as making new friends. Libra is very likable and most of them are also very charming. Libra also likes beauty dan culture. SLYTHERIN: Scorpio, Cancer, Capricorn 10. Scorpio Deep, detailed, serious, mysterious, likes to keeping secrets, Scorpio is charming because of that traits. But a Scorpion can also be deeply sensitive, very opened about their feelings, and seriously fun! Scorpio sees the world as black and white. They're an extremist. But from them we can learn many new things that usually, we don't pay attention about it. Scorpio isn't just a leader material, they can also lead in bed. Sometimes they can be appear as creepy. Don't worry guys, it's not that they're pervert, they just know how to appreciate sex. 11. Cancer Romantic. Cancer can appear as shy. But once they can trust you, Cancer has so many stories to tell. Cancer appreciates love and kindness, but they're so afraid to be betrayed so they make a huge barrier from people. They can also be so manipulative to protect themselves from harm. But deep inside, Cancer is your softest friend. 12. Capricorn Capricorn is the businessman. They're ambitious and visionary. They love working and money and also know how to get it. They're superior and great, but not really in good at loving someone. Capricorn can't love somebody easily, but when they do, they will do anything for that person. Finally... Tell us what's your astrology sign? Does it fit your house? Which sign actually fits your personality the most?
  14. Welcome to the ASTROLOGY world! img credit to owner There are 12 signs, included 4 elements (Fire, Earth, Air, Water) and 3 types (Cardinal/Initiation, Fixed/Stabilization, Mutable/Adaptatation). 3 x 4 = 12. Yeah, that's how it works. Because each signs have their own traits and the thing that they value, why not sort them into Hogwart's houses? Without further ado, let's go! Let's start with the easy one... GRYFFINDOR: ARIES, LEO, SAGITTARIUS 1. Aries 2. Leo 3. Sagittarius Move to the blue house! RAVENCLAW: GEMINI, AQUARIUS, PISCES 4. Gemini 5. Aquarius 6. Pisces What's your astrology sign (sun)? Does it fit your house? Which sign fits your personality the most?

  17. Hi everyone, So I'm not sure if I should reply to this to say that I am brand new, but here I am! I am very interested in being part of Slytherin and due to my very own cunning and ambitious nature, I am sure to make sure that I help as much as possible to make Slytherin the winning house! I'm also open to meeting and making new friends, as well as into fan-fiction and writing in general. Apart from that, I do have a dark and sarcastic nature, but that's just me. I am a big fan of Quidditch, just to put it out there as well. Looking forward to hearing more from you.
  18. I choose Lupin/Tonks, I really wanted to have more of a relationship develop between the two but we don't really get to read much about them, we do meet Tonks parents but that really does seem to be about it. Who do you choose and why?

  20. Entering through the Great Hall doors, visitors will be greeted by a sea of green as the Slytherin house banners from the film series are suspended from the enchanted ceiling, denoting a Slytherin victory of the House Cup. Known throughout the eight films for its ambition and links to dark magic, Slytherin house is home to some of the greatest wizards of all time. This April, we’re inviting you to join us to discover the secrets behind some of the iconic costumes and props belonging to your favourite cunning Slytherin characters. You won’t have to be under the guise of Polyjuice potion to discover the secrets of the Slytherin common room up close, as for the first time ever, you are invited to gather around the imposing fireplace and sofas where Ron’s magical transformation began to wear off, revealing his ginger hair. During this special feature, a 25-foot high section of this iconic set will be on display, furnished and dressed with authentic props. During filming, Production Designer Stuart Craig wanted a very different atmosphere to the warm colours of Gryffindor so designed the Slytherin common room set to look like a dungeon carved out of solid rock. You’ll be able to see the hand-crafted wall tapestries, which had the red tones completely taken out of the colour palette to add to the austere atmosphere and further highlight the iconic Slytherin colours, green and silver. When stepping into the Great Hall, you’ll be greeted by a sea of green house banners from the film series are suspended from the enchanted ceiling, denoting a Slytherin victory of the House Cup. Above the teacher’s table, Gryffindor banners will be displayed in reference to the final scenes of Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone in which Dumbledore awards last-minute house points resulting in a Gryffindor triumph. Paying homage to some of Slytherin’s most esteemed witches and wizards, a number of original costumes belonging to the Malfoy family will be on display allowing you to see how the designs changed to depict their rise and fall in power and status alongside Lord Voldemort. The evolution of Voldemort’s costumes showing his growth from orphan, Tom Riddle, to young Hogwarts student to prolific villain will also be showcased. News Source & Image Credits; Warner Bros. For Download Links: http://www.planetminecraft.com/project/harry-potter-adventure-map-3347878/ Screen Shots: Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ): By The Floo Network (Planet Minecraft) Hello, everyone! I would like to help everyone who has a question, but I don't have time to respond to you all. Since I am seeing a lot of the same questions asked, I'll try to answer those here: 1. The map doesn't show up when I download it. This is because you have extracted the world folder into a new folder. The folder in your saves folder should be called "By The Floo Network". If it is called "Harry Potter in Minecraft" instead, simply open this folder, and drag the folder inside out into the saves folder. 2. What is the Resource pack and the shader pack? I have made the Resource pack myself, and it's custom built for the map. If can be downloaded from the Planet Minecraft link in the description. The Shader is Sildur's Vibrant Shaders. 3. How do I install the map? There is a guide if you click the link in the description, which explains how to install it. 4. The book for teleporting around doesn't show up in my inventory. The book only shows up, if you are playing in the version 1.12 or later. The mechanism for giving the player the book in not compatible with 1.11.2 or older updates. 5. Is there any mods required: No. The map has been built and functions in vanilla Minecraft. 6. Does the map cost money? No. The map is free, though you can choose to donate. 7. Is it an adventure map with quests? Not yet, but I am currently working on an expanded version of the map, with quests, as well as new locations, (The rest of the ministry of magic, post-battle Hogwarts and much more!) It will also add some improvements to the locations already built 8. How long did it take to build the map, and how many people worked on it? We are five teenagers, four of us from Denmark and one from America, who've worked on the map on and off over a period of several years. The vast majority of the map was however built by just one person, with the rest helping with some builds and some of the technical aspects of the project.

  23. All good things must come to an end. And unfortunately, that includes Netflix’s The Crown. Creator Peter Morgan has revealed the hit show will end after the fifth season. “At the outset, I had imagined The Crown running for six seasons, but now that we have begun work on the stories for season five, it has become clear to me that this is the perfect time and place to stop,” said Morgan. “I’m grateful to Netflix and Sony for supporting me in this decision.” The show has also cast their final Queen Elizabeth: Imelda Staunton, the Harry Potter actress will succeed Claire Foy (seasons 1 and 2) and Olivia Colman (seasons 3 and 4) in the royal role. The site wrote that Morgan had wanted to go to six seasons, but that’s not the case anymore. Cindy Holland, who is the vice president of Original Content at Netflix, also said, “The first three seasons of The Crown defined an era, and I know the upcoming fourth season will build further on that success.” She continued, “It’s a stunning example of award-winning entertainment, created in the UK and loved by millions of fans around the world. I fully support Peter Morgan’s creative decision and am excited to see how he, Imelda Staunton and the cast and crew of Season 5, bring this landmark series to a fitting and spectacular end.” Staunton, meanwhile, said in her own statement, “As an actor it was a joy to see how both Claire Foy and Olivia Colman brought something special and unique to Peter Morgan’s scripts. I am genuinely honoured to be joining such an exceptional creative team and to be taking The Crown to its conclusion.”
