I love Ginny. The movies aren't canon and don't matter, but in the books she's a wonderful character: funny, strong, warm.
Someone else was moving not far away, stooping over another prone figure on the ground. He was feet away from her when he realized it was Ginny. He stopped in his tracks. She was crouching over a girl who was whispering for her mother.
“It’s all right,” Ginny was saying. “It’s okay. We’re going to get you inside.”
“But I want to go home,” whispered the girl. “I don’t want to fight anymore!”
“I know,” said Ginny, and her voice broke. “It’s going to be all right.” – DH
A bit snarky and mischievous.
“They could hear people complaining; one surly voice said, “I can’t see no gas…”“That’s because it’s colorless,” said Ginny in a convincingly exasperated voice, “but if you want to walk through it, carry on, then we’ll have your body as proof for the next idiot who didn’t believe us…” – OotP
Harry: “And Ginny, don’t call Ron a prat, you’re not the Captain of this team —"Ginny: "Well, you seemed too busy to call him a prat and I thought someone should —” – HBP
Ginny: “You’d think people had better things to gossip about. Three dementor attacks in a week, and all Romilda Vane does is ask me if it’s true you’ve got a hippogriff tattooed across your chest."Harry: "What did you tell her?"Ginny: "I told her it’s a Hungarian Horntail. Much more macho."Harry: "Thanks. And what did you tell her Ron’s got?"Ginny: "A Pygmy Puff, but I didn’t say where.” – HBP
And she gets Harry like no other character, except maybe Ron. Where Hermione will nag and guilt trip Harry when she's worried about him, Ginny gets right to root of the problem and gives him support and/or a sharp wake up call.
Harry to Ginny: “I didn’t want anyone to talk to me,” said Harry, who was feeling more and more nettled.“Well, that was a bit stupid of you,” said Ginny angrily, “seeing as you don’t know anyone but me who’s been possessed by You-Know-Who, and I can tell you how it feels.”Harry remained quite still as the impact of these words hit him. Then he wheeled around.“I forgot,” he said.“Lucky you,” said Ginny coolly. – OotP
She's a survivor. She went through an incredibly traumatic experience in her first year at Hogwarts and came out stronger.
Harry respects her. He laughs at her jokes. He enjoys her company. They share interets. Harry knows that she's strong enough to be with someone like him. Anyone could fall in love with Ginny, because she's wonderful. It takes Harry a few years because he's preoccupied with another girl and with all the chaos in his life, but once Ginny is no longer a child he sees her for who she really is. There's zero reason why she's need a love potion. Harry is lucky to have her and they're perfect for each other.
