	Hello and welcome Students,
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	In order to communicate with one another, we've created this guide on how to post topics and replies and this is done by using forums.<br />

</p>

<div>
	<p>
		<span style="font-size:20px;"><strong>What are forums and how do they work?</strong></span>
	</p>

	<ul>
		<li>
			An Internet forum is a discussion area on a website. Website members can post discussions and read and respond to posts by other forum members. A forum can be focused on nearly any subject and a sense of an online community, or virtual community, tends to develop among forum members.
		</li>
		<li>
			This type of forum may also be called a message board, discussion group, bulletin board, or web forum, but it differs from a blog, the name for a web log, as a blog is usually written by one user and usually only allows for the responses of others to the blog material. A forum usually allows all members to make posts and start new topics.
		</li>
		<li>
			An Internet forum is also different from a chat room. Members in a chat room usually all chat or communicate at the same time, while members in a discussion group post messages to be read by others whenever they happen to log on. Forums also tend to be more topic-focused than chat rooms.
		</li>
		<li>
			The separate conversations in a forum are called threads, and they are made up of member-written posts. Members can usually edit their own posts, start new topics, post in their choice of threads, and edit their profile. A profile usually lists optional information about each forum member, such as the city they are located in and their interests.
		</li>
		<li>
			We believe this sort of community with a message board is far superior to Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. Your posts will never be lost, and everyone can join in our conversations.
		</li>
	</ul>
</div>

<p>
	First, you'll need to know how to navigate. This will be a slightly different experience depending on your device.<br />
	<br />
	Here are our community forums: this is where you can navigate around. Firstly, we have our NAVIGATION MENU.<br />
	<span style="color:#27ae60;"><strong>Home | Forums | Browse | Forum Activity | Hogwarts Activity | Store | Support</strong></span><br />

</p>

<p>
	Just underneath the menu you'll see the navigation location, this tells you where you are currently on the forums.<br />
	So in this screenshot we are at <span style="color:#27ae60;">HOME --&gt; FORUMS</span>.<br />
	<a class="ipsAttachLink ipsAttachLink_image" data-fileext="jpg" data-fileid="1737" href="https://thewizardingworld.co.uk/uploads/monthly_2021_08/425384177_Screenshot2021-08-30at20_48_30.jpg.7e3b5fe3f9f5b055251c70f3fb0797c0.jpg" rel=""><img alt="1959302528_Screenshot2021-08-30at20_48_30.thumb.jpg.2b4fc15c068e1957b3fcbbbf50ee4ad1.jpg" class="ipsImage ipsImage_thumbnailed" data-fileid="1737" data-ratio="80.79" style="height:auto;" width="1114" data-src="https://thewizardingworld.co.uk/uploads/monthly_2021_08/1959302528_Screenshot2021-08-30at20_48_30.thumb.jpg.2b4fc15c068e1957b3fcbbbf50ee4ad1.jpg" src="https://thewizardingworld.co.uk/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></a>
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	A forum can contain multiple discussions, which are also known as threads. Each discussion can contain multiple posts, which are individual messages written by users.<br />

</p>

<p>
	This document illustrates how students can create discussions and reply to posts. It also demonstrates how you access different parts of the forums known as categories and sub-forums.<br />
	<br />
	First, let's take a look at how a forum is laid out.<a class="ipsAttachLink ipsAttachLink_image" data-fileext="jpg" data-fileid="1733" href="https://thewizardingworld.co.uk/uploads/monthly_2021_08/2074416675_Screenshot2021-08-30at20_30_27.jpg.fe1ff6d4bbf9cfcb10aeec941ff3fec5.jpg" rel=""><img alt="945622730_Screenshot2021-08-30at20_30_27.thumb.jpg.3c41784e4f540d571dc7f8a889b59d67.jpg" class="ipsImage ipsImage_thumbnailed" data-fileid="1733" data-ratio="56.25" style="height:auto;" width="1200" data-src="https://thewizardingworld.co.uk/uploads/monthly_2021_08/945622730_Screenshot2021-08-30at20_30_27.thumb.jpg.3c41784e4f540d571dc7f8a889b59d67.jpg" src="https://thewizardingworld.co.uk/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></a>
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	In the above screenshot, you'll see the category 'Welcome Witches, Wizards, Muggles and Squibs!'. Within this category is separate forums, in this example they are:<br />

</p>

<ul>
	<li>
		Getting Started...
	</li>
	<li>
		Enrol (Join)
	</li>
	<li>
		Harry Potter Polls!
	</li>
	<li>
		What are forums?
	</li>
	<li>
		House Points
	</li>
	<li>
		About Us
	</li>
</ul>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Each one of these forums is accessible via clicking the title name. If we click 'Getting Started', it'll take us to this forum (see screenshot below).
</p>

<p>
	<a class="ipsAttachLink ipsAttachLink_image" data-fileext="jpg" data-fileid="1734" href="https://thewizardingworld.co.uk/uploads/monthly_2021_08/64157243_Screenshot2021-08-30at20_39_05.jpg.d265c2d1c12b4a3194a64bc0c828eed9.jpg" rel=""><img alt="475849409_Screenshot2021-08-30at20_39_05.thumb.jpg.c926d4c7ca262cd5bb6bafd65c2791d8.jpg" class="ipsImage ipsImage_thumbnailed" data-fileid="1734" data-ratio="56.25" style="height:auto;" width="1200" data-src="https://thewizardingworld.co.uk/uploads/monthly_2021_08/475849409_Screenshot2021-08-30at20_39_05.thumb.jpg.c926d4c7ca262cd5bb6bafd65c2791d8.jpg" src="https://thewizardingworld.co.uk/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></a>
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Now that we are in the forum, you'll see a list of topics. Each topic has a title which explains what it will be about. Again, you can click the title in order to read, and reply to the post.
</p>

<p>
	<br />
	Once you've accessed the topic of your choosing and you wish to reply to it, you can do so by using the 'text editor'. This is the same if you were using any form of social media.<br />
	<a class="ipsAttachLink ipsAttachLink_image" data-fileext="jpg" data-fileid="1735" href="https://thewizardingworld.co.uk/uploads/monthly_2021_08/1277287038_Screenshot2021-08-30at20_40_55.jpg.bce26c6e7ce1512422421995b5152ed5.jpg" rel=""><img alt="395196121_Screenshot2021-08-30at20_40_55.thumb.jpg.137cad9190bfe5f0895832f3349fce3b.jpg" class="ipsImage ipsImage_thumbnailed" data-fileid="1735" data-ratio="81.15" style="height:auto;" width="1109" data-src="https://thewizardingworld.co.uk/uploads/monthly_2021_08/395196121_Screenshot2021-08-30at20_40_55.thumb.jpg.137cad9190bfe5f0895832f3349fce3b.jpg" src="https://thewizardingworld.co.uk/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></a>
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	At the bottom of the post is where you'll find said editor box.
</p>

<p>
	<a class="ipsAttachLink ipsAttachLink_image" data-fileext="jpg" data-fileid="1736" href="https://thewizardingworld.co.uk/uploads/monthly_2021_08/1887561842_Screenshot2021-08-30at20_43_09.jpg.322f248f7bbfe01563f6406527b52e75.jpg" rel=""><img alt="1682765936_Screenshot2021-08-30at20_43_09.thumb.jpg.34180beb6ce89595eb0df10f1505b8d2.jpg" class="ipsImage ipsImage_thumbnailed" data-fileid="1736" data-ratio="37.50" style="height:auto;" width="1200" data-src="https://thewizardingworld.co.uk/uploads/monthly_2021_08/1682765936_Screenshot2021-08-30at20_43_09.thumb.jpg.34180beb6ce89595eb0df10f1505b8d2.jpg" src="https://thewizardingworld.co.uk/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></a>
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Once you've finished with your message, you click on the 'SUBMIT REPLY' to post your message for everyone else to read.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	And that's it. Congratulations!
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	We recommend that you start off in our welcome section 'HOGWARTS EXPRESS' and create a post, or reply to the one with your name in the title.<br />
	<a class="ipsAttachLink ipsAttachLink_image" data-fileext="jpg" data-fileid="1738" href="https://thewizardingworld.co.uk/uploads/monthly_2021_08/1927238282_Screenshot2021-08-30at20_48_51.jpg.6e853a3ba7e74cd68583f57eacab461a.jpg" rel=""><img alt="593834461_Screenshot2021-08-30at20_48_51.thumb.jpg.68d0fa0eddf14b73ddad3723e2fbeb21.jpg" class="ipsImage ipsImage_thumbnailed" data-fileid="1738" data-ratio="56.25" style="height:auto;" width="1200" data-src="https://thewizardingworld.co.uk/uploads/monthly_2021_08/593834461_Screenshot2021-08-30at20_48_51.thumb.jpg.68d0fa0eddf14b73ddad3723e2fbeb21.jpg" src="https://thewizardingworld.co.uk/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></a>
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Each forum acts the same, so creating and replying to topics/posts is no different, no matter where you are within the community.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Our second example, is a little further down in our forum category listing. This time, we'll use the 'THE THREE BROOMSTICKS' forum in order to post a question about the Harry Potter series.<br />
	<a class="ipsAttachLink ipsAttachLink_image" data-fileext="jpg" data-fileid="1739" href="https://thewizardingworld.co.uk/uploads/monthly_2021_08/2053068461_Screenshot2021-08-30at20_57_08.jpg.23b977d9acefd10086f95ca2f05a0a69.jpg" rel=""><img alt="231338829_Screenshot2021-08-30at20_57_08.thumb.jpg.95acabc5677b0db43c4999499d0f5f06.jpg" class="ipsImage ipsImage_thumbnailed" data-fileid="1739" data-ratio="92.78" style="height:auto;" width="970" data-src="https://thewizardingworld.co.uk/uploads/monthly_2021_08/231338829_Screenshot2021-08-30at20_57_08.thumb.jpg.95acabc5677b0db43c4999499d0f5f06.jpg" src="https://thewizardingworld.co.uk/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></a>
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	We click the forum title name which will take us to a list of topics.<br />
	<a class="ipsAttachLink ipsAttachLink_image" data-fileext="jpg" data-fileid="1740" href="https://thewizardingworld.co.uk/uploads/monthly_2021_08/1429050165_Screenshot2021-08-30at20_59_05.jpg.501a4969deb9b1c278c8f067621975af.jpg" rel=""><img alt="728842694_Screenshot2021-08-30at20_59_05.thumb.jpg.4fcae96be8f7e3e1042a2a73bbab1bde.jpg" class="ipsImage ipsImage_thumbnailed" data-fileid="1740" data-ratio="83.49" style="height:auto;" width="1078" data-src="https://thewizardingworld.co.uk/uploads/monthly_2021_08/728842694_Screenshot2021-08-30at20_59_05.thumb.jpg.4fcae96be8f7e3e1042a2a73bbab1bde.jpg" src="https://thewizardingworld.co.uk/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></a>

	I’m an avid Harry Potter fan, first and foremost. Having had previous experience of running and managing websites, I’m also passionate about the use and implementation of innovative software and technology - the TWWForums is the result of the combination of these two interests. Before work began on building this website, much of my time was spent searching the internet for other dedicated Harry Potter fan sites - I was going to need a few points of reference, after all! While it may come as little surprise that there are various floating all over the net, what was perhaps more shocking, was the fact that the majority of these sites are, for the most part, inactive.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	A film and book franchise that is still as meaningfully relevant to global audiences, nineteen years after its original release, and yet this popularity isn’t being reflected through its fansites? Why? It was truly puzzling to me. Having done more research, I discovered that many of the websites are using outdated software - 10 years out of date, in some cases, so they are no longer fit for purpose. Some such websites were, for example; designed with image galleries in mind; and while these may indeed be compatible for viewing on a desktop, to scroll through reams and reams of photos on a tablet or mobile device, would surely be time consuming and off-putting for potential visitors. We live in an age where we want to access information quickly and easily. Keeping this in the forefront of my mind, I was intent on building a platform (9/34… See what I did there? Ha!) that was cleanly secure, contemporary, device and user friendly - a new type of site that can keep up with, and cater to, a new generation of Harry Potter fans! I am also really proud that this site can be fully integrated or interconnected with users’ social media pages - namely Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.

	<span style="font-size:20px;"><strong>How to earn house points here at The Wizarding World | Harry Potter Fan Forums</strong></span>

<p>
	Quite simply you're rewarded for participating in discussions and being an active member of TWW. Just like in the books and films each member of their respective house will earn house points.

</p>

<p>
	<em>"While you are at TWWForums, your triumphs will earn you house points, while any rule-breaking will result in a loss house house points.<br />
	At the end of the year, the house with the most points is awarded the house cup, a great honour."</em>
</p>

<p>
	<strong>—Professor Minerva McGonagall </strong>
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	The House Cup is a yearly award at Hogwarts (TWWForums). It is given at the end of the school year to the House with the most House points. Points are given to Houses by teachers and prefects throughout the year for various things including answering questions correctly and doing good deeds.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Points can be taken away for things such as misbehaving or rule-breaking. Giant and enchanted hourglasses in the entrance hall keep track of the House Points. The hourglasses are filled with different jewels for each house - Gryffindor's are rubies, Ravenclaw's sapphires, Slytherin's emeralds and Hufflepuff's diamonds.

<p>
	<strong><span style="font-size:20px;">Thank you for stopping off at the TheWizardingWorld | Harry Potter Fan Forum: Headmaster’s Welcome</span></strong>
</p>

<p>
	We like to think that we’re a Harry Potter fan site - with a difference! The fact that we are a forum based community means that we give our users the freedom to create and control the content!
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Do you have a theory about an aspect of the films and / or books that you’d like to get off of your chest?  Do you fancy yourself as a ‘J.K. Rowling in-the-making’ with stories and original pieces of fan fiction that pick up where the original stories left off? Or maybe you’re a serious collector whose amassed hoards of uniquely fascinating Harry Potter memorabilia that you’d like to showcase?
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Sign up, become a student and you’ll be ‘sorted’ into your house; where you can design your own profile page, and start creating your own personalised ‘topics’ straight away. You can also join existing conversations with fellow fans by replying to ‘threads’ and discussions that pique your interest. Are you a true PotterHead? Find out by putting your knowledge to the test in our ‘quizzes and competitions’ sections, too!
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Here at the TWWForums, a fan’s appreciation or passion for Harry Potter is recognised and rewarded - quite literally. Content that you create and posts that you make, win points for your house! Is your wand at the ready? Well, why not come on in and join us?
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	The important thing to remember, is that this site can be whatever our users want it to be!
